JAN FRIBERG, M.D., PH.D., specializes in the treatment of individuals with fertility problems.
Dr. Jan Friberg is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology, as well as in reproductive endocrinology and infertility. Dr. Jan Friberg interest in fertility dates back to 1964 when he worked with Sweden's Professor Carl Gemzell. Professor Gemzell invented the urine pregnancy test in the late 1950's and developed the predecessor to the hormone stimulation now used in infertility and IVF treatments.
Dr. Friberg studied with a Ford Foundation Fellowship, and in 1974, received his doctorate in reproductive immunology from the University of Uppsala, Sweden where he also obtained his medical degree later that same year. Dr. Friberg moved to the United States in 1975 and completed his residency at the Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. He has held many professorships in both Sweden and the United States, and has served as Chief of Infertility at Chicago's Mt. Sinai Hospital Medical Center where he worked 1981 - 1989.
Dr. Friberg was co-editor-in-chief of the Journal of In Vitro Fertilization and Embryo Transfer and served as an editorial board member of the American Journal of Reproductive Immunology. He has made 138 international presentations on fertility and related subjects, and has authored articles in 165 international publications. He holds active membership in 17 scientific and professional organizations. Of his work, Dr. Friberg states, "We do everything possible to help those with fertility problems realize their dream of having a child. We believe in hope."
